As a natural extension of our corporate mission, Taking Care of the Way People Live ®, Gables is dedicated to Taking Care of Our Environment. We are committed to being a responsible corporate citizen and real estate developer; we are mindful of our impact on the local environment and have adopted a green initiatives program to help do our part. These initiatives represent merely the first steps towards what we hope will be greater emphasis on going green by our company and industry. Ultimately, our goal is to be a leader in sustainable apartment living.

Gables is proud to implement best-practices, recommended by the Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency, United States Green Building Council (USBGC) LEED Program and other local and regional sustainability organizations.
Green Working Environments
Across the country, our associates embrace our commitment to sustainability by following best practices. Associates in the corporate offices, as well as the leasing offices, are encouraged to "think green" in the workplace.
Energy Efficiency and Water Conservation
Includes efficient design and construction, energy efficient appliances, lighting fixtures and controls, and HVAC upgrades. Many communities ENERGY STAR® certified or feature appliance packages.
Indoor Air Quality
We work to improve indoor air through clean and efficient systems, low-VOC paints, carpets, and cleaning products.
Landscaping & Environment
Our landscaping plans emphasize regional plants and work to minimize our community’s impact on local ecosystems and waterways. We work to control stormwater runoff and reduce soil erosion, light pollution, and the heat island effect.
Green Transportation
Our newest communities are located in urban city centers near already-established infrastructure, community resources, and public transit.
Recycling
Gables promotes waste reduction as well as the use of reusable materials to our associates, communities, corporate offices and residents. Most of our communities offer recycling centers or organized recycling program.
Outreach and Awareness
Through associate training courses, newsletters, Earth Day annual celebration and marketing, we continually build awareness of green issues among our associates and residents.
